Savannah, Georgia in the summer is a beautiful place to be, especially along the city’s famed historic River Street. But, as much as people may enjoy the views and being outside, the heat and humidity can just plain get to a person and when it does the temptation to immediately seek out a cold drink and AC before having to jump into the Savannah River itself can begin driving any seemingly logical person stark raving mad. Yet, you don’t necessarily have to dip inside in order to get out of the heat.

Located up a flight of stairs hanging over the cobble stone River Street is a patio bar with live music, built in misters that spray customers gently without getting them soaked and cool, slow live music to take the edge off (not to mention plenty of drink concoctions and beers on tap).
Tubby’s is one of the most relaxing locations next to the River and a prime spot to just waste the day away. With friendly servers and barkeeps and of course great views, a quick lunch may turn into a three-hour ordeal, especially if you’re bringing friends or family along.
Tubby’s isn’t all outside, though. There is a homely, well-designed inside section with it’s own separate bar and nice, comfy booths – all very well designed and perfect for a large group of people. Besides, it’s not summer all the time!
Priding themselves on fresh seafood, there is plenty to pick and choose from on Tubby’s menu. I always enjoy inquiring into the catch of the day, which is always the freshest on the menu and you can order it grilled, fried or blackened. However, there are plenty of other salivating items on the menu such as fried asparagus (seriously), Savannah Crab Dip, Calamari and that quintessential southern delicacy fried green tomatoes, but that’s all just for starters.
There are salads, soups and stews like Crab Stew as well as seafood baskets (shrimp, scallop, buffalo shrimp, fish fingers, oyster and buffalo oysters) and sandwiches such as gigantic burgers, Philly Cheesesteak, shrimp salad sandwiches, shrimp and oyster po’ boys and Salmon BLTs.
If you love crab legs and shrimp then you’ll love Tubby’s steam pot served with sweet corn and coleslaw. However, if you’re not prone to seafood, but have a big appetite there are plenty of land lover’s entrees too such as file mignon, ribeye and chicken cordon bleu complete with plenty of pasta sides.
