This year, the Children's Art Fair in the Square—themed Reinvent! Recreate! Reuse!—will feature a variety of art stations with creative activities for kids incorporating natural, found, or recycled items. Activities include ornament-making with shells and recycled jar lids; building pinecone bird feeders; pet rock and leaf rubbing projects; creating crazy hair grass heads; and jewelry-making with shells and beads. Additional features include an appearance by Silly Dilly the Clown and a moon bouncer, as well as snack and drink booths.
Wander through the garden and Museum on a moonlit night, while enjoying refreshments under the tent and live music inside the Museum. As always, the most romantic FREE event in the city.
This year's guest artist will be Philip Neidlinger, playing a theremin which he built himself. The theremin is a rarely-seen early electronic instrument in which the proximity of the player's hands to the vertical and horizontal antennae determines the pitch and volume of the sounds produced. Originally intended to play the classical repertoire, the theremin is capable of great delicacy.
Hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the annual Savannah Film Festival presents a full range of cinematic creativity from both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers.
Panel discussions and presentations by visiting artists offer movie buffs the unique opportunity to experience the art of film while interacting one-on-one with their favorite filmmakers.
Past honored guests have included Peter O'Toole, Kathleen Turner, Sydney Pollack, Alan Cumming, Roger Ebert, Jane Fonda, John Waters, Danny Glover, Alec Baldwin, Natasha Richardson and Ellen Burstyn.
Over 60 businesses in historic, downtown Savannah will be giving out free canine treats to costumed dogs.
The fun begins at Canine Palace, 618 Abercorn Street. Maps showing the trick or treating sites go on sale at noon. There is a minimum $5.00 donation per adult. Dogs should be in costume – human costumes optional.
All proceeds from Wag-O-Ween 2009 will go to the Humane Society of Chatham/Savannah. This event is hosted by St. Almo (Savannah's True Animal Lovers Meeting Others).
